Monday, June 9th was a fabulous day for the 11th Annual PEMA Golf Tournament held at the Black Gold Golf Course. We had a full course with 154 participants who competed for prizes and raffles as they enjoyed a day out in the fresh air and sunshine.

As is typical with PEMA tournaments, our sponsors provided various activities and entertainment at their assigned holes during the round of golf. There were many reported sightings of a Pirate on Hole #10 – Arrgh! Several sponsors held there own raffles and gave away some nice prizes, golf clubs and even cash! In particular we’d like to extend our special thanks to PSC Industrial Outsourcing for donating the residual from their 50/50 drawing to the charity funds!

This year PEMA introduced Super Tickets to the tournament with the lucky winner of the 3 Day/2 Night Vacation Package being John Shepler of SunStar Laboratories.
Cal Cotton (BC Labs), Jeff Wheater (Holiday Rock), Ryan Pollard (Leighton Consulting) and Shah Rashimi (Del Monte) all won a chance to take the $100,000 shot. Sadly, there were no big winners!

Tournament winner this year for 3rd place was the SunStar Laboratories foursome of John Shepler, Ben Beauchaine, Bryan Kerr and Matt Broesamle at 14 under. Coming in 2nd was the Castlerock Environmental Inc. foursome of Marty Gonzales, Gregg Fenn, Chris Turner and Gavin Barr at 16 under. Our tournament winners, who shot a stellar 17 under, was The Chambers Group foursome of John Webb, Gary Lipkin, Carl Kemp and Chris Gutierrez. Our most honest golfers were the Calscience Laboratories foursome of Steve Novack, Viendra Patel, Ranjit Clarke and Don Burley who finished the day at one over par. (Ryan Allen, well we can only smile.) Congratulations to all who participated

Mark Bailey of the PCS Industrial Outsourcing foursome was Closest to the Pin on the TestAmerica Hole #7, his shot landing an amazing 38 inches from the cup beating out Jeff Fujita (Environmental Remediation Group) by 3 inches whose shot held up for most of the day.

This year’s Longest Drive award, sponsored by Bryan A. Stirrat and Assoc., didn’t go to Ed Batlle (Jacob & Hefner), or last year’s winner Ryan Strandberg, but to Chris Gutierrez of the Chambers Group foursome who shot it a distance of 309 yards!
For the women, the Longest Drive award went to Aimee Wilson (NRC Environmental Services) at a measured distance of 265 yards and the Closest to the Pin was Brynn McCulloch (Leighton Group).

Unfortunately no one claimed the $15,000 cash prize at the American Integrated Services Hole-in-One at hole #16. But, they did enjoy the beverages they provided! Oh, and did we mention American Integrated Services was also our Platinum Sponsor! Go AIS!!

Several golfers were seen lingering at Hole #1, our Gold Sponsor location, and home of Innovative Construction Solutions. Can’t imagine why there was such a back up there! Hmmm?

After the round of golf, everyone retired to the clubhouse for cocktails, mingling and tall golfing tales of using drivers off the fairway for potential eagles that barely missed, 50 foot putts that lipped out, and narrow escapes from rattlesnakes while tracking down that lost Pro V-1 ball. Thanks to Castlerock Environmental for sponsoring the Cocktail Hour!

The day was then rounded off with a very tasty buffet and a seemingly endless raffle prize give-away with awesome prizes ending with the very coveted X-box 360 and a Playstation 3 donated by American Integrated Services. Our silent auction was offered for the first time with Hirad Emadi (Innovative Construction Solutions), David Herrera (American Inegrated Services) and Chuck Waters (Innovative Construction Solutions) donating some cash to get some priceless sports photos and signed golf balls.
We were lucky to be joined by several representatives from our selected charities: San Diego Hospice, St. Vincent Meals-On-Wheels and YMCA Community Services. It is always reassuring to know that Sister Alice Marie is praying for us! Congratulations to young Austin, a child from the YMCA program, who was the lucky raffle winner of tickets to Universal Studios!

Our 11th tournament was our best attended and one of the most successful golf events PEMA has had to date! We can not thank our sponsors enough for their support! We hope to see you all again next year!

We hope you will be able to join us at the PEMA Holiday Mixer in December when we will present the charities the funds we have raised. (Date to be announced shortly)
